Beruwala light house
About Beruwala light house
Beruwala Lighthouse stands on Barberyn Island just off the coast of Beruwala, guiding ships along Sri Lanka’s southwestern shoreline for over a century. Surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, this historic lighthouse offers a peaceful island setting and scenic coastal views.
Built during the British colonial era in 1889, the lighthouse has long served as an important maritime navigation point along the southwest coast.
Visitors can reach the lighthouse by a short boat ride from Beruwala Harbor, adding a small adventure to the visit.
From the island, enjoy sweeping views of the Indian Ocean and the Beruwala coastline.
The quiet surroundings of Barberyn Island offer a calm escape from busy beach areas.
The white lighthouse tower against the deep blue sea creates a beautiful coastal photography location.
